FLINT (AP) -- A man charged with knifing three men to death in the Flint area had a black eye and bruises on his face during his first appearance in a courtroom.
Genesee County authorities say officers pounced on Elias Abuelazam and used a stun gun when he tried to punch a jail guard Wednesday. The results were evident at Friday's 10-minute hearing.
Abuelazam faces a Nov. 12 court hearing to determine whether there's probable cause to send him to trial in one of the three murder cases. Similar hearings are set for Dec. 9-10.
Fourteen men were stabbed, five fatally, in the Flint area last summer. Besides three murder charges, Abuelazam faces six charges of attempted murder, including an attack in Toledo, Ohio. He's also a suspect in similar attacks in Leesburg, Va.
