Voters across the country will express their opinions in Tuesday's election. Nationally, Republicans are projected to gain ground in the U.S. Senate, House and in governor seats.

Locally, there are several races that could impact those results. These are some of the races NBC25 will focus on Tuesday night.

Governor: Republican Rick Snyder should be happy with the latest poll from state media outlets. Snyder had a 55 to 37 percent advantage over Democratic nominee Virg Bernero.

Attorney General: There are two local candidates in the race -- Republican Bill Schuette and Democrat (and current Genesee County Prosecutor) David Leyton.

Secretary of State: Republican candidate Ruth Johnson is from Holly. She faces Democrat Jocelyn Benson.

4th District U.S. Congress: Republican Dave Camp of Midland is running for re-election against Democrat Jerry M. Campbell.

5th District U.S. Congress: The highly touted race between incumbent Dale Kildee and challenger John Kupiec will be watched closely across the country. Wall Street Journal columnist John Fund picks Kupiec to deliver a possible upset.

Proposal 1 – A yes vote would mean that the state congress would draft a revision of the state constitution.

Proposal 2 – A yes vote would prohibit certain felons from holding elected office and certain types of public positions.

31st District State Senator – Republican Mike Green faces Democrat Jeff Mayes, the current representative in the 96th District.

Locally, there are several millages and races that have stirred interest among voters.

In Saginaw County, voters will be asking for a millage renewal for The Dow Event Center. The millage is for about half of what was requested 10 years ago. The tax would cost the owner of a $100,000 home about $11 a year.

There is also an animal control millage, which would be for .15 mill in Saginaw County. It would cost the owner of a $100,000 home $4.59 a year. There’s a 1 mill tax levy being requested in Birch Run for police for five years. It would raise nearly $60,000 and cost the owner of a $100,000 home $30.63 a year.

In Bay County, taxpayers will be asked to renew a 1 mill tax for four years for the Bay County Library. It would cost $30.63 a year for home valued at $100,000.

In Genesee County, there are fire department tax proposals on the docket in Flint Township (a .25 mill renewal) and Grand Blanc and Grand Blanc Township (a new .5 mill). There’s also the county treasurer’s race between Judy Zabik and Deb Cherry.

In Huron County, voters will be asked if they want to create two wind districts. A yes vote doesn’t mean turbines will be built there but a no vote would say the residents have taken a stand against the wind companies. However, another zoning amendment could be proposed to develop other parts of the county.

In Midland County, there’s a proposal to renew the millage for services to older citizens. It would be for .75 mill and would cost owners of a $100,000 about $23 a year.
