DETROIT (AP) -- General Motors Co. says strong demand for its pickups and wagons lifted October sales 3.5 percent and helped the automaker overcome weak car sales.

GM says its Buick brand saw the biggest increase, up 39 percent. GMC sales rose 30 percent.

October results indicate auto sales may be rebounding in earnest after a bumpy year. Analysts are expecting last month to be the best October for the industry in three years.

Other automakers are expected to report later Wednesday.
