Three people are arrested and two children are removed from their home after multiple police agencies raid a MidMichigan apartment.
Those police agencies say the adults were operating a meth lab. Investigators say they're glad they got there before something deadly could happen.
Those who live at the Oak Ridge Apartments in Clare County's Harrison across the street from MidMichigan Community College say they had no idea what was going on in apartment number 8.
"Right next door, it's nuts," says James Roger who lives next door.
Tips came into the Bay Area Narcotics Enforcement Team about suspicions of a meth lab being operated inside.
BAYANET Det. Lt. Amado Arceo says, "We did locate and seize meth components that did not appear to be active meth lab, but they had been making meth recently."
"I didn't smell anything, otherwise I would have called the cops myself being right here, and my kids right next door," says Rogers.
Keith Rogeven, 29, Lora Persky, 29, and Lora's brother Dustin Martin, 25, were arraigned Friday for maintaining a drug house.
Lora's 2-year-old and 5-month-old were removed from the house and are in the custody of Child Protective Services.
Police say meth is made from common household items that aren't illegal in and of themselves. However, combine the ingredients, cook it, and it forms a highly toxic and explosive substance.
"Worst case scenario, it could have been very bad for the entire complex," says Amado.
Several other tenants have kids as well and are glad these people are gone.
"I don't see how anyone could do it," says Rogers.
Michigan State Police, the meth team, Clare County Sheriff's deputies, the Harrison Fire Department, and local EMS removed the ingredients from the home.
Methamphetamine, also known as crank, crystal, and ice, can cause people to stay awake and not eat for days.
Operating and maintaining a meth lab carries a 20-year prison sentence.
