Michigan's Thumb area welcomes the state's 2nd and 3rd ethanol blender pump stations.

Supporters say it's a boost for jobs, agriculture, the environment, and less dependence on foreign oil.

At Ignash Petroleum in Elkton, people top off their tanks with the power of corn.

That's because Wednesday the price for E85 was a $1.85.

Customers love the competition.

Elwood Hammerle from Bad Axe says, "I hope it brings the price down about $.50."

However, E85 offers less horsepower and fewer miles per gallon than gasoline.

Bruce Herriman filled up his 2007 GMC Sierra Wednesday and says, "Just about 10 miles for a half a tank you're losing, about a mile a gallon. It's a dollar less a gallon, you're gaining really."

Ethanol supporters say all drivers should consider the blend.

Dave Gloer, general manager of POET Biorefining in Caro says, "What we have found in our research is that even for non-flex fuel vehicles, a blend of E30 to E40 is the optimal blend where you get the best fuel economy, and the lowest prices, and the best performance for the vehicle."

Michigan senator-elect Mike Green says he'll serve on two committees to make sure michigan farming moves to the forefront. Green says, "The Thumb is the heart of agriculture in Michigan, and I'm proud to be a part of it."

Ignash Petroleum offers E30, E50, and E85, along with gasoline and diesel.

However, customers still want more options. Herriman says, "Now, if they come out with a water-supplied engine, I'll buy that. I can fill it up at home."

The other grand opening Wednesday was at Cooperative Elevator in Sebewaing.

Critics say ethanol isn't the answer and that without government subsidies, the market would not want it at all.

However, ethanol supporters say it's being shut out of the market with government regulations.
