When it comes to the most dangerous cities in the country, Flint ranks fourth according to a new report.
The CQ Press released its City Crime Rankings 2010-2011: Crime in Metropolitan America report this weekend.
According to the report St. Louis, Missouri has the highest crime rate ranking, followed by Camden, New Jersey; Detroit; Flint; and Oakland, California.
Flint Police reported to the FBI 2,244 violent crimes in a city with a population of 111,657 in 2009.
Nationally, cities see an average of 429.4 violent crimes per 100,000 people according to the CQ Press analysis.
The CQ Press says it came up with the rankings after analyzing FBI crime statistics. It took into account population, and the number of murders, rapes, assaults, burglaries, robberies, and vehicle thefts.
The FBI cautions against ranking cities based on statistics it gathers, but the CQ press says it believes this data is valuable and provides insight for concerned Americans as to how their communities are fighting crime.
The ranking comes as Flint deals with a budget deficit and the likely possibility of more cuts in public safety.
