PRESQUE ISLE CO., MI –

Thousands are turning to facebook for help in the search for a police dog that ran off from his handler earlier this month in northern Michigan.

The page “Find Bane” on the social networking site now has more than 4,300 fans.

Four-year-old MSP K9 Bane went missing while searching for a missing man south of Onaway in the Presque Isle County woods.

"He got tangled up, when I dropped his lead to get him untangled, a small deer had bedded up less than five yards from where we were at, and he got on him and he took off right away," explained Trooper Jamie Bullis, Bane’s handler to NBC25’s sister station, WPBN-WTOM TV 7&4 in Traverse City.

“He's about as much to this department as I am, or any other trooper to this post.  There are people alive in our community because of the work he's able to do," said Bullis.

He says Bane is friendly and will probably come if he hears you call his name.

If you've seen Bane, please contact the Michigan State Police at 989-734-2204 or 989-354-4101.
