BEAVER ISLAND, Mich. (AP) - The U.S. Coast Guard says it sent a helicopter to evacuate an 89-year-old resident of Beaver Island who injured her hip from remote northern Lake Michigan.
The Coast Guard says it got a call about 12:50 a.m. Sunday that a woman who lives on the island needed to get to a hospital on Michigan's mainland.
The Coast Guard says it sent a copter from its Traverse City station to pick her up, arriving about 1:45 a.m.
Petty Officer 3rd Class George Degener in Cleveland says a nurse practitioner accompanied the flight crew and says an emergency medical services team met the helicopter in Charlevoix and took the woman to a hospital.
Degener says he didn't have information on her condition.
