PINCONNING -- A local teenager is in custody after being rescued from a river by the man he tried to steal a car from.
Michigan State Police at the Bay City Post say the Pinconning 16 year old and an accomplice were trying to steal several vehicles Sunday night when one of the owners caught them.
The teens ran from the scene on foot.
The owner tried to track down the suspects, when he found one of the boys in the Pinconning River. Police reports say the auto-theft victim dove into the water and rescued the teen. The rescuer then took the boy back to the scene of the crime and gave him dry clothes and a blanket before calling police.
Officials believe the teen may be involved in at least two other car thefts. He has been lodged in the Bay County Juvenile Detention Center.
Troopers have an idea where the second suspect is, but have not yet made an arrest.
