The City of Flint now owns the abandoned downtown Genesee Towers building.

The building has been at the center of controversy with the most recent owner suing the city in 2004.

The city lost an appeal and now has to pay the former owner more than $8 million.

NBC25 asked Flint Mayor Dayne Walling what is next for the building.

"We'll be taking a look over the next few weeks about the prospective level of developer intent to see if we need a formal RFP (request for proposal) or if we need to proceed with a demolition plan," Walling said.

Flint homeowners will have to pay an extra $150 a year for the city's lawsuit.
