CARROLLTON, SAGINAW COUNTY -- Investigators have honed in on a key suspect in a rash of snow plow thefts that have taken place across Saginaw County as business owners recover their stolen property in time for a weekend of projected snowfall. Eric Oswald told NBC25 he was glad to have his plow, valued at nearly $5,000 back in operation in time for heavier snowfalls.
“It’s very troublesome to find out someone is going around and doing this,” he said. Perhaps even more troubling is the fact that the suspect worked for a rival company and is connected to thefts at plowing facilities in Thomas Township, and Chesaning. On Friday, NBC25 learned another plow was recovered at a facility in Freeland.
Three of the stolen plows (including Oswald’s) were found at Ope’s Lawn Care, where the suspect once worked. Company owner Andy Opalewski said he had no idea the stolen merchandise was there and worked with law enforcement during the investigation.
Authorities are expected to make an arrest and file formal charges early next week.
