SAGINAW COUNTY -- An increase in the price of road salt has road crews trying to be more efficient, when battling the early morning icy buildups and slick spots on the roads.
The price is up just a couple dollars per ton, according to Gregg Brunner, MDOT’s Bay City Transportation Service Center manager. Right now it costs about $60 per ton. That is about the same as a ton of asphalt.
“Overall we’ve seen a sufficient change in the last five years,” he said. “The prices have doubled.
