(AP) -- Constituents, family, friends - frankly anybody who wants to come along - are invited to a farewell open house in honor of outgoing U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra (HUK'-struh). Hoekstra didn't seek re-election to the 2nd District seat this year. Instead he made a run for governor, which ended with a second-place finish in the Republican primary.
Now, Team Hoekstra is putting on an event Monday night in celebration of the Holland Republican's 18 years in Washington. His replacement, Bill Huizenga (HY'-zuhn-guh), is expected to attend the open house at Evergreen Commons in Holland.
He served as Hoekstra's district director in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
