MIDLAND CO. -- The following is a message from the The Midland County Educational Service Agency:
The Midland County Educational Service Agency has been awarded $5,000.00 from the Midland County Youth Action Council (MCYAC) to expand the Imagination Library program.
The Imagination Library of Midland County, established in 2006, fosters early childhood literacy and prepares enrolled children for school success by providing them with a new, age-appropriate book each month free-of-charge until their fifth birthday.
Currently, 2,400 children, representing 53% of age-eligible children, are enrolled in the Imagination Library of Midland County. The recent award from the Midland Area Community Foundation ensures that 166 additional children will receive Imagination Library books in 2011.
“The value of this gift far exceeds $5,000. It’s impossible to fully know the value these books will have in the lives of the children and families who receive them,” said Emily Holty, Resource Development Coordinator for the Midland County Educational Service Agency.
