The Saginaw County Sheriff's Department wants you to be on alert as you shop for Christmas presents.
Undersheriff Robert Karl says the season of giving usually takes people's attention from safety and turns their focus to getting their shopping done.
He says common sense will keep you safe.
"Don't flash a lot of money around. These days, a lot of people use plastic. If you can do that and pay it off, that's better. Keep your purses locked up. Keep your packages out of sight in your vehicles. Just be more mindful of the environment you're in," says Robert Karl.
The sheriff's department also reminds people that leaving children in vehicles while you're shopping is illegal.
