The new year did not kick off well for Michigan’s college football teams.

Not only did the University of Michigan lose, it suffered its worst bowl loss in history. The Mississippi State Bulldogs slaughtered the Wolverines 52-14 Saturday in the Gator Bowl.

Analysts say the loss may have cost Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez his job.

The Spartans meantime lost in the most lopsided Capital One Bowl in history.  Alabama beat Michigan State 49-7.

The good news for our state when it comes to college football is that a native gave a winning performance.  Flint native Mark Ingram broke the Alabama career touch down record during the Capital One Bowl.  The 2009 Heisman Trophy winner had 59 yards rushing against the Spartans.
