DOWNTOWN LANSING -- Governor Rick Snyder was sworn into office two minutes after noon on Saturday, setting his political agenda for the next four years.
After taking the oath of office, Snyder delivered a 13 minute address calling for unity and an end to partisan bickering and blame games. The speech carried few specifics but carried out the central goal of an inaugural address, which is to set a tone.
He laid out a four point platform under the theme "The Power of Michigan", calling for globally competitive innovation, more and better jobs, a brighter future for Michigan's youth, and not leaving anyone behind in the process. Most of these points were embedded elements of his general election campaign to “reinvent Michigan.”
The governor addressed the crowd of roughly two thousand people after the swearing in of Attorney General Bill Schuette of Midland, Secretary of State Ruth Johnson of Oakland County, and Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley of Portland.
Snyder then attended an inaugural gala at Michigan State University's Wharton Center Saturday evening.
