A mid-Michigan native is now the favorite in the bidding war for the Detroit Pistons.
The Detroit Free Press reports the team has designated 1982 Genesee High graduate Tom Gores as the preferred bidder to buy the team.
The Free Press says he has an exclusive 30-day period to finalize a purchase deal.
The self-made billionaire currently lives in California where he owns The Platinum Equity Group.
The Pistons had been negotiating a deal with Detroit Tigers and Red Wings owner Mike Ilitch, but the sale never came to be.
