(AP) -- Two snowmobilers who crashed through the ice in Houghton Lake have been treated for hypothermia after being pulled to safety by two Michigan State Police troopers and area residents.

Police tell The Bay City Times that Michael Roy of Houghton Lake and James Cooper of Chesaning fell through Higgins Lake about 6:15 p.m. Sunday.

Responding troopers found the men about a half-mile apart after their friends made unsuccessful attempts to rescue them. Police say the men had been in the water about 20 minutes.

Both were expected to make full recoveries.
