SAGINAW COUNTY -- Saginaw County first responders gathered to train for emergencies on the ice.

They met at Haithco Park Sunday afternoon.

There they put a hole in the ice and practiced rescue techniques.

They say the ice is pretty solid thanks to cold temperatures.

However, they say it is important to remind folks ice can be unpredictable.

Folks need to be aware, be cautious, and be prepared for the worst.

"So far this has been a good winter but you never know. You just got to be careful and observe where you are going," said Lt. David Sommers with the Saginaw County Sheriff’s Dive Team.

These first responders are truly dedicated.

They’ll be training again next weekend in Thomas Township.
