A fire broke out around 5:30 this morning at Denny's Market in Genesee Township, destroying the business.

A Spartan Foods delivery driver was behind the building and heard an explosion, according to Genesee Township Police Lt. John Mullaly.

Firefighers were still at the scene at 1:15 p.m. and Mullaly expected them to be there for most of the day.

Mullally said fire crews are running back and forth between hydrants, which are about an eighth of a mile away. The hydrants slowly lose pressure, so crews alternate between them.

The state fire marshal is expected at the site at some point today, according to Mullally.

Denny Loomis Sr. and Denny Loomis Jr. own the business.

This isn't the first time Denny's Market has witnessed a store fire firsthand. Denny's Market on M-15 in Otisville caught fire Aug. 15, 2008. The Michigan State Police fire marshal said an employee was making a sandwich when a toaster caught fire.

The building was a total loss but  the owners have since rebuilt it.
