HURON CO. -- The Huron County Sheriff’s Department is asking drivers to stay off the roads during this week’s snow storm.

Sheriff Kelly Hanson says he took criticism on December 13,2010 for not issuing a similar warning. While no one was injured during that storm, he wants to ensure that residents are forewarned of the dangers of driving in blizzard conditions.

In a written statement, Sheriff Hanson reports, “We have equipped our deputies with 4 wheel drive vehicles but with poor visibilities and major drifting of snow, we may not be able to respond to calls for assistance. Emergency supplies should be secured by early this evening to be prepared to ride out the storm.” He continues by saying, “unless an absolute emergency occurs DO NOT VENTURE OUT ONTO THE ROADS. If that emergency does occur, make sure you have a cell phone, proper winter clothing, enough gasoline, food and drink, along with other survival gear. Efforts should also be made to tell someone where you are going and the roads you intend to take.”

For more information regarding the storm, be sure to tune into NBC25 News at 6:00 pm and 11:00 pm.
