Kimberly Goins works in the operating room at Hurley Medical Center in Flint. Early Wednesday morning she called NBC25 to see if any staff was heading to Flint.
Goins ended up hitching a ride to work with NBC25 Elizabeth MacFarland and Photojournalist Brett Dickie. Goins of Clio was unable to get out of her driveway since it was covered with snow. Goins attempted to get her red Pontiac out onto the roads but got stuck at the end of her driveway.
While en route to Hurley, several other Mid-Michigan residents were caught in a bind. One man was trying to get his vehicle out from the snow when a plow truck driver stopped to help. Another few were spotted digging themselves out of their driveways. David Bowen of Clio ran out of gas in his snow blower and was forced to finish up with his shovel.
Visibility was low on the roads, vehicles were spotted in ditches and emergency crews were out in full.
But amongst all of the challenges along the way, Goins made it safely to work.
