Wall Street Journal says such bonuses would be record breaking
General Motors workers may have a very Happy Valentine’s Day. That is the day by which they are expected to learn just how big the profit sharing check they are entitled to will be.
The Wall Street Journal reports sources in General Motors saying workers could get profit-sharing bonuses promised in their U.A.W. contract worth $3,000 or even more. If that is the case workers would receive record amounts.
The exact amount is not known as General Motors is still calculating its 2010 profits. We know that through September of last year the automaker made an estimated $4.2 billion.
In order to make sure it survived its 2009 bankruptcy filing, the federal government gave GM an almost $50 billion bailout.
We want to know what you think about these possible record bonuses at a company just recently out of bankruptcy. Do you think an automaker just out of bankruptcy should have negotiated a more conservative deal with the unions and save more of its profits? Do you think the workers sacrificed enough to help the company survive and deserve this reward?
