One Michigan lawmaker says yes.
Debate continues to surround the proposed gun legislation NBC25 told you about last month.
Sen. Mike Green, a Mayville Republican proposed a measure that would repeal the state’s law banning firearms in churches, schools, bars, day care centers, hospitals, and other locations.
Sen. Green says the goal of the legislation is to protect law abiding citizens.
Supporters have said while giving an example of why it should be passed, that if teachers with concealed weapons permits were allowed to carry guns, they could prevent school shootings.
Those against such a change in law say allowing guns in historically gun-free locations only increases the risk for violence.
A Kalamazoo Gazette report on the subject today said that in Kalamazoo law enforcement officials do not see many problems from those licensed to carry a firearm. Most people committing crimes using a gun don’t bother to register.
Kalamazoo County Prosecutor Jeff Fink however told the paper he didn’t think such a change in law was necessary.
We want to know what you think. Should those with a permit to carry a concealed weapon be allowed to carry a gun in churches, schools, and other locations? Where is the limit? Do you think such a change in law would make you safer? Please leave your comments below.
