SAGINAW CO. -- At 5:00 pm Tuesday, Saginaw County Commissioners will meet to decide whether a public safety millage will go on the next ballot.
This is a story NBC25 has been following for several months. We’re told that if the millage is not put on the ballot, or does not pass, then the county will have to cut 20 jail positions, meaning the jail will close. Also, they’ll be forced to cut six detectives investigating serious crimes and 9 road patrol officers.
The county is currently faces about a $5.5 million budget shortfall.
The 1-mill proposal would cost homeowners about $43.00 per year for at least four years.
NBC25 will have more information from the commissioner’s meeting on NBC25 News at 11:00pm.
