SAGINAW -- Update: SundayFebruary 20, 2011

Saginaw Police have identified the woman killed in a Saturday morning shooting as 54-year-old Dawn Elizabeth Ricklefs of Saginaw.

Police said they are still working to identify the shooter who fired into the crowded bar, hitting Ricklefs. Anyone who was at the Corner Lounge Friday night and Saturday morning is asked to call the Saginaw Police Department's Detective Bureau on Monday at (989) 795-1245.

Original story

A woman was shot and killed as she sat at a table with friends at the Corner Lounge Bar in Saginaw early Saturday morning.

“I’ve been here almost 13 years and we have never, ever had anything like this happen before,” said Mary Cottrell, the owner of the Corner Lounge.

Shortly after midnight Saturday, Saginaw Police said a fight broke out at the bar at 2100 W. Michigan Ave off Superior in Saginaw.

“The father of the one fell off the bar stool and one of our people offered to help him get up," Cottrell said. "And he didn't like it, so the son sucker-punched the other guy.”

Cottrell said the group was asked to leave the bar, but the incident didn't end there.

Cottrell said the suspect came back in a car heading south on Superior Street. As he drove by, he shot at one of the bar entry doors.  At least five bullets went through the door.

“The DJ told everybody to duck when the shots went off,” Cottrell said.

On the other side of the bar, a 54-year-old woman was sitting at a table.

“From my understanding, she got hit in the leg first and then she got hit in the back,” Cottrell said.

The bar manager said someone rushed to give her CPR before she was taken to an area hospital.

An hour later, Saginaw Police sadi she died.

“It’s sad. I’m very sad about what's happened and we do have friends that know who it was,” said a concerned resident who wanted to remain anonymous.

Cottrell said the suspect is not a regular at the Corner Lounge and her bar is a friendly place to go.

“We've never had it happen before and hopefully never again,” she said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact CRIMESTOPPERS at (800) 422-5245 or the Saginaw Police Department at (989) 759-1289.
