WSGW reports the Michigan AFL-CIO plans to gather demonstrators Tuesday across from the capitol.
Union leaders have called Governor Rick Snyder’s proposed budge anti-union. The claim is that it will place schools and cities in emergency financial situations, and then emergency financial managers will be used to wipe-out collective bargaining agreements.
The governor’s proposal throws out many tax breaks and cuts funding to schools and local governments.
Governor Snyder has said shared sacrifice is needed to keep Michigan financially viable.
Some of the most controversial parts of the plan:
Pensions will no longer be tax exempt.
The Michigan Business Tax will be eliminated.
Three hundred field workers in the Department of Human Services will lose their jobs.
Cities and counties will lose millions in revenue sharing dollars.
School funding will be cut by $470/student.NBC25 wants to know what you think about the proposed budget plan. Does it cut too deep? Do you think it is anti-union? Do you think it is simply something that needs to be done? Make your voice heard by leaving your comments below.
