Midland's Mackinac Center for Public Policy says the Michigan Department of Human Services will stop taking so-called "union dues" out of subsidy checks for home-based daycare providers.

The Mackinac Center filed a lawsuit in 2009 saying it was illegal.

The case had been thrown out by higher courts, but the center says DHS says it will stop taking money out of the checks March 18th.

Union officials say it was fair and square because a vote was taken among the 40,000 home-based child care providers in the state.

The Mackinac Center says most of the providers did not understand what happened or that they were public employees.
