MIDLAND -- Update: March 7, 1:15 pm

The Midland County Prosecutor's office tells NBC25 that a March 15th preliminary examination has been scheduled for Jeffrey Doyle.

The Prosecutor's office says Doyle is officially charged with the following:

  • Count 1- Extortion, maliciously threatening a local woman with intent to compel the person to do or refrain from doing an act against her will.
  • Count 2 – Criminal Sexual Conduct, third degree
  • Count 3- Obstruction of Justice
  • Count 4- Criminal Sexual Conduct, fourth degree

NBC25 has chosen not to release the victim's name due to the sensativity of the case.

Midland Police Officer has been charged in two sex crimes

The Saginaw News reports 39 year old Jeffrey Doyle is accused of the crimes against an adult woman.  While few details about the crimes are being released, Doyle faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

He has been suspended without pay, and is lodged in the Midland County Jail as the investigation continues.

NBC25 has left messages with Prosecutor Michael Carpenter for details in the case. Carpenter has not returned our calls.

We’re continuing to follow this investigation, and will have more information as it becomes available.

In the meantime, we want to know if you think police officers should receive harsher punishments for crimes than an average citizen. Leave us your comments and vote on our poll below.
