BURTON -- It’s the one day out of the year when you’re encouraged to pack on the calories.
Tuesday is “Fat Tuesday.” It’s the day before “Lent,” the day that thousands will make sacrifices, such as giving up sweets, for religious reasons before Easter.
Before Lent, a tradition is to splurge on those things you’ll give up- especially pastries.
That’s why Jablonski’s Bakery in Burton and other bakeries across the U.S. have been spending the weekend baking up thousands of Pączkis.
Pączkis are a Polish doughnut, typically filled with a jelly or fruit filling. They’re most popular in the United States just before Lent as people, religious or not, flock to pastry shops to get the fat-filled treat.
While the actual amount of calories varies per Pączki, each delicious morsel estimated to contain 300 to 450 calories.
Jablonski's says they'll open at 5:00 am March 8.
