LINWOOD -- Six people were rescued out of the Saginaw River on St. Patrick’s Day.
U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crews rescued five people floating on ice section of ice on Thursday night. The rescues happened near Linwood.
Another man was rescued by fire officials nearby. The Coast Guard helicopter continued to keep an eye on the ice, as large chunks continued to break off and float down stream.
The Coast Guard warns that, “the high number of rescues demonstrates that the rapidly changing air temperature is making ice in Saginaw Bay and the remainder of the region unstable and extremely dangerous for recreational users.” Please remember to stay off the ice as the weather continues to warm.
