Flint Police Chief Alvern Lock says when he learned just how prevalent internet crimes against children are in Genesee County, he knew something needed to be done.
“There are people all over this county that are sharing child pornography,” said Chief Lock.
Wednesday Michigan State and Flint Police announced they have set up a task force based in the Flint Police Department to address this problem.
"We're going to be looking for people trading child porn, possessing child porn, and creating child porn," said Michigan State Police Detective First Lieutenant Tom Kish.
Kish says predators have found new ways to use technology to target children on-line. They use game systems, cell phones, and social networking sites to build relationships with victims.
“The internet makes it easy for individuals to feel anonymous. This task force is going to go about uncovering that anonymity and prosecuting those individuals who prey upon our children.”
This will be just one of many such task forces across the country.
Police expect to have investigations underway by early May. They are hoping other local departments will take part, and help provide investigators.
