Elba Township-- April is Child Abuse Awareness Month and a local mother is using the opportunity to get her message out.

She's still dealing with the death of her two year old daughter and wants to make sure others don't have to go through what she's going through.

Lauren Furneaux reflects on the life she had prior to her daughter's death. "It was amazing. Life was perfect when I had her."

She put all she had into her daughter two year old Lily Furneaux. November 20th, 2010, Lily passed away.

Renee King, Lily's stepmother, is charged with sexually and physically abusing Lily and also killing her.

Lauren says it was difficult accepting her daughter was dead, but that now she has another purpose.

"At the funeral, the priest said 'Now you have a mission.' It's like a lightbulb clicked."

Lauren has dedicated her life to creating awareness of child abuse, raising money for her organization "Justice for Lily," and supporting similar organizations.

"I love it. It's what keeps me going. If I didn't have this, then I would not be able to survive. A lot of people have wrote me, saying 'You've changed my life. I spend more time with my children. I don't take things for granted anymore.' It just brings tears to your eyes every time you read something like that."

Lauren wears blue streaks in her hair, even dyed one of her dogs blue, to show support of child abuse awareness.

"If we can save one child's life, that would be more than anything we could ever ask for."

Lily loved Christmas, so the tree stays standing, along with her presents.

She loved Toy Story, that's why her mother wears a shirt promising to "Fight for justice to infinity and beyond."

Lily's mother encourages everyone to call 911 if they suspect child abuse.

The woman accused of killing Lily will be back in court at the end of the month.
