The Bay City Police Department front desk will be open Monday through Friday again.
BAY CITY -- Update: April 13th, 4:25 p.m.
Bay City Police say concessions are to thank for the extended front desk hours. Since the Bay City Commission and Union Local 542 came to agreements, the city will be able to bring back eleven laid off employees. One of those employees will staff the department's front desk.
The Bay City Police Department is extending its hours.
Last summer, the station’s front desk was only open on Wednesdays between the hours of 7:00 am and 3:00 pm. Police Chief Michael Cecchini told NBC25 they were forced to cut hours due to budget issues.
However, that is now changing. Beginning Monday, April 18th, the front desk will be open Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. In a press release, the department states, “the front desk will serve as an information center to assist citizens who may request general information such as report requests, Freedom of Information requests, and gun registrations or to report an incident that is of a non-emergency matter.”
In an emergency, residents are still asked to call 911 for immediate help.
