MIDLAND -- Update: April 15th, 12:20 p.m.
Dow Chemical has identified the victim of Thursday's accident as David Roy.
In a press release, Earl Shipp, vice president of Michigan Operations states, "This has had an impact on all of us, especially those who worked closely with him. It’s been an extremely emotional time. We are mourning the loss of one of our own. He was truly a highly valued member of our team and a role model for his co-workers. Our deepest sympathies, prayers and support go out to the family and friends."
Dow Chemical reports that David began working at the Midland company in 1987, and was currently working at the Specialty Monomers production facility, 1130 Building.
Dow and MiOSHA are both conducting investigations into the incident.
Dow Chemical has reported to NBC25 that an employee has died after falling from an elevated location.
While few details are being released, The Midland Daily News says the man fell about 30 feet from a catwalk around 7:00 a.m.
In a statement, Dow Michigan Operations states, “the employees at The Dow Chemical Company offer their thoughts and prayers to the family during this extremely difficult time.”
Dow Chemical tells NBC25 they are not releasing further details surrounding the tragedy since the man's family has not yet been notified.
According to the Midland Daily News report, this is the first fatality in the Midland plant since 1998, when James Keeley died from exposure to harmful chemicals. The report says Keeley wasn’t following protocols.
