SAGINAW CO. -- Orange barrels are once again lining a major highway in the Saginaw County area, as road work begins on the new I-675 exit.
The $14 Million project will create a Warren Avenue interchange off of I-675, leading drivers directly into the downtown area. The project also includes bridge work on nine other bridges in the 2.5 mile span.
During construction, northbound lanes will be closed from the I-75 south junction to Warren Avenue. Southbound lanes will be closed between Warren Avenue and Veterans Memorial Parkway.
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) stated that they interviewed business owners and community members to better understand what would work best for the area. It took over ten years to come up with this plan, and they say it will tremendously help boost the economy in the downtown area.
The road work began Monday, and is expected to be completed by 2011.
