FLINT -- Kiplinger, a financial and business media outlet, has released the "eleven comeback cities of 2011." Flint, Michigan made the list.
The Kiplinger website states, “For some particularly hard-hit metro areas, 2011 will bring a dramatic turnaround -- new investment by businesses, growth in the number of jobs and a reblooming of hope… But these cities are enjoying a surprising and welcome upward bounce.”Michigan’s ailing City of Flint made the list. The report cites the growing medical industry as a leader that will take over where the auto-industry failed. It states companies such as Diplomat Pharmacy, Hurley Medical Center, and McLaren Regional Medical Center are carrying the weight, and leading the area to a comeback.
The article also says that General Motors is rebounding in the area. The GM Flint Truck and Bus Assembly plant is adding a third shift, and increasing 750 jobs. However, this comes as the powerhouse plant laid of hundreds of workers, and Flint’s unemployment hovered around 12%.
The ten other cities that made the list are Charlotte (North Carolina), Chattanooga, Nashville, Orlando, Jacksonville (Florida), Las Vegas, Phoenix, Portland (Oregon), Seattle, and San Jose.
