BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (AP) — An Oklahoma woman says an anonymous "angel" has bought a $50,000 insurance policy to help her keep her kangaroo as a therapy pet.

The Broken Arrow city council is deciding whether to grant Christie Carr an exemption and allow her to keep the partially paralyzed kangaroo named Irwin. Having the insurance policy for any injuries inflicted by Irwin would be among the exemption requirements.

Carr has said she may not be able to afford the insurance. But she tells the Tulsa World that a State Farm Insurance official contacted her earlier this week to say the policy had been bought for her.

Carr has kept Irwin since he was paralyzed after running into fence post at an animal sanctuary. The council is expected to vote on the exemption May 3.
