GAYLORD -- Flags are to be lowered Friday in honor of U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sgt. David Day.

26-year-old Sgt. Day was from Gaylord.  He died April 24th during a battle in Afghanistan.  He had served two tours of duty in Iraq.

Sgt. Day will be laid to rest Friday, May 13th at Gaylord Evangelical-Free Church. Governor Rick Snyder has asked that all United States Flags be lowered on that day in his memorial.

“My sincere condolences are with David’s family. His life will be honored by his loved ones, our communities and the entire state,” Snyder stated in a written release.
