LAPEER -- A Lapeer man has been sentenced to jail, and will pay thousands of dollars in restitution for killing a woman in what police call a texting while driving case.

41-year-old Jerry Joseph was sentenced Wednesday to 30 days in jail, 12 months probation, and ordered to pay $5,000 in fines and restitution for the crash that killed 78-year-old Irene Paquin.

Police reports say Joseph ran a stop sign on November 30th, and broad-sided Paquin’s vehicle.  The woman died from the impact.  Authorities believe Joseph was sending a text message at the time of the crash.
