BAD AXE -- Bad Axe Police report they were called to Osentoski Farm Equipment on East Huron Road around 8:45 a.m. Sunday, for reports of a child in the area.
When Officer Marc Bridson arrived, he found the little boy, who is believed to be about 2 to 3 years old, in the roadway. Employees said the same child had wandered into the area a week before.
The officer asked him his name, and he said it was “Mikey.” Other than saying, “tractor,” the lost child didn’t say much else.
Police report, “the child was dirty, wet, cold, and had soiled himself.”
Officer Bridson contacted Child Protective Services, and placed the child with a foster family while police searched for his parents.
He then combed the area, contacting businesses and residents in an effort to locate the little boy’s family. With the help of the Osentoski family, police were able to determine the apartment complex where the child’s mother lived.
When Officer Bridson arrived at Anderson Apartments, he knocked on several doors. Finally, a neighbor pointed him in the right direction. The officer finally found the mother’s unit around 12:30 p.m., and after pounding on the door for several minutes, she finally opened. She stated that the boy, who she identified as Christopher, had been sleeping, and that she thought the he was still in bed.
The officer noticed several other people in the filthy living room.
Officer Bridson notified the mother that the child was in protective custody, and that police would be contacting her regarding the situation.
A warrant request is being forwarded to the Huron County Prosecutor, seeking charges against the woman for neglect.
