Michigan State Police are still searching for a missing police dog.
Bane went missing in November as the four-year-old MSP dog tracked a missing man with dementia in the Presque Isle County woods. He simply ran out of site. He has not been seen since.
“Our department has classified him as missing in action,” said Bane’s handler, Trooper James Bullis. “We’re still looking.”
Bullis has been assigned a new canine partner named Vadas, a police tracking and drug dog pulled out of retirement to help Michigan State Police in Northeast Michigan.
“He has absolutely grown on me. He’s my new partner, but he hasn’t replaced Bane.”
Trooper Bullis says Bane could be anywhere. He says the dog could easily survive in the woods, or have traveled to another part of the state. He says it is possible someone found him and took him in as a stray, but fears something tragic happened.
Bullis is asking for the public’s help finding Bane, an animal he says isn’t just a dog, but is a public servant and his partner.
“The objective, of not becoming close to your dog… it doesn’t happen.”
Bullis and others have been using Facebook to keep the search for Bane alive. You can find their page by clicking here.
