MIDLAND COUNTY -- Former Midland Police Officer Jeffrey Doyle will spend up to 20 years behind bars for sexually assaulting a local woman.

In earlier court hearings, Doyle’s attorney tried to get the sentence diminished since Doyle is the sole provider for his family.  However, Midland County Judge Jonathan Lauderbach didn’t give in to those requests and sentenced the former officer to six to twenty years in prison for 3rd and 4th degree criminal sexual conduct, obstruction of justice, and extortion.

Prosecutors say Doyle assaulted a Mid-Michigan woman last February. Officials say he misused his position as a police officer to take advantage of the woman.

Doyle pleaded no contest to the charges.
