DETROIT -- Gov. Rick Snyder ordered United States flags throughout the state to be lowered to half-staff in honor of Detroit Police Officer Charles Armour on Friday, June 17. Flags should be returned to full-staff on Saturday, June 18.Armour, 44, of Detroit and a 17-year veteran of the Detroit Police Department, was struck by a vehicle in the line of duty on June 5. He died Saturday, June 11 from injuries sustained in the accident.
“My condolences are with Officer Armour’s family, friends and fellow police officers at this difficult time. His service and dedication to protect our people and communities will be remembered and never forgotten,” Snyder said.
Visitation for Officer Armour is scheduled for Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Swanson Funeral Home in Detroit. His funeral will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Greater Grace Temple in Detroit.
When flown at half-staff or half-mast, the United States flag should be hoisted first to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff or half-mast position. The flag should again be raised to the peak before it is lowered for the day.
