The Supreme Court has sided with Wal-mart in a sex discrimination case.
In March, NBC25 brought you the story that more than a million women were suing Wal-mart Stores, stating the company often over-looked women when it came time for promotions and pay raises within the company.
The Supreme Court took up class action suit, and Monday ruled on the side of the retailer, according to the Chicago Tribune. According to the article, the Supreme Court stated, “The high court accepted Wal-Mart's main argument that the female employees in different jobs at 3,400 different stores nationwide and with different supervisors do not have enough in common to be lumped together in a single class-action lawsuit.”
This ruling means the women, as a group, cannot sue the retailer. However, it does not prevent individual lawsuits from moving through various courts.
