The Tri-City LGBT Pride Festival is a public outdoor event with activities for adults and children.
The festival featured live music, food, and vendors.
Alicia Skillman, Keynote Speaker at the Tri-City LGBT Pride Festival says this event was designed to bring the Tri-City community together to end discrimination against the gay community.
"It's more than just a party, we have to work to change laws, to advocate who we are," says Skillman.
Skillman says discrimination is not an issue that exists only in the LGBT community, and that parents and educators should be aware of bullying in schools.
"A kid can be bullied for just looking gay, for looking a certain religion, for just looking a certain way. Our kids are our kids, we want to protect them," says Skillman.
Kathy VanBuskirk, Committee Chairwoman for the Tri-City LGBT Pride Festival also hopes the event will make a positive impact on the community.
"There are a lot of suicides in this country which is really sad, and I'm hoping we can build up pride in people and the numbers will go down," says VanBuskirk.
The second annual Tri-City LGBT Festival will be held on Ojibway Island at the end of June next year.
