HURON COUNTY -- The 7-year-old boy, who drove about 20 miles before being pulled over by Huron County authorities, now faces charges in the incident.
According to the Associated Press, Prosecutor Timothy Rukowski signed a petition to charge the run-away with “unlawful use of a motor vehicle.”
The courts also ordered the child to undergo a psychiatric evaluation, to determine what caused the boy to steal his step-father’s vehicle and attempt to travel to his father’s home earlier this month.
Authorities say the kid made it from his stepfather’s house in Sheridan Township all the way to the Caseville area, a distance of about 20 miles. He trying to get to his dad’s house on Fillion Road in the Kinde area.
The child’s mother said she had worked the overnight shift, and didn’t even know her son was missing until she received a call from law enforcement.
