Fire started around 10 pm Monday
FLINT -- A commercial fire broke out at Spooner Metals on North Dort Highway in Flint Monday night, causing the road to be closed between Stewart and Pierson. Those roads opened back up Tuesday morning, but the fire is still burning.
Fire crews from Grand Blanc, Davison, Burton and Genesee Township were called to the scene to help put out the flames.
The fire started around 10 pm Monday.
Flint Battalion Chief John Babb tells NBC25, "When their first truck got to the scene the fire was over 100 feet wide in diameter and over 50 feet tall and it was about 75 percent engulfed"
Spooner Metals LLC is listed as a private company, specializing in scrap metal and iron, and has between 20 and 49 employees.
There were also 11 other fires Monday night. Nine of those were abandoned homes that are believed to be arson. Two other homes were occupied that caught fire. One of those was a fireworks related accident, the other caught fire after an abandoned neighbor's home burnt.
The cause of the Spooner Metals fire is being investigated.
