Randall Kram allegedly sot estranged wife, then turned the gun on himself
GARFIELD TOWNSHIP -- A murder suicide at a Clare County home this past holiday weekend is sending shock waves through a quiet neighborhood.
Deputies say two people were found shot to death inside a home on Cortez Sunday morning.
Both people were killed by the same gun.
Fifty one-year-old Carrie Kram of Lake Isabella was visiting her family at the home when her estranged husband, 61-year-old Randall Kram, shot and killed her, then likely turned the gun on himself.
Bob Dullinger, a neighbor and long time friend of Carrie Kram’s family, says he was right next door when the shots were fired.
"The fireworks were going off, you never could tell," says Dullinger.
He says he is shocked that something so violent could occur so close to his home.
“We saw her that morning, gave hugs and hellos, and then something went terribly wrong,” says Dullinger.
Detective Michael Coon, Clare County Sheriff’s Office, says Randall and Carrie Kram had been separated for about five weeks. Randall was not invited to the home, and showed up unannounced.
"We found through the investigation that he made a purchase earlier in the day on Saturday at a local gun shop where he had purchased the gun, ammunition, and the clothes he was wearing,” says Coon.
He says Randall Kram parked about a half mile from the residence and walked to the home in a camouflage suit.
"He probably stayed outside and observed the residence for a while before going in and confronting his wife," says Coon.
Carrie Kram’s family members were out on the lake Saturday evening when Randall Kram confronted Carrie Kram with the gun he had purchased that same day.
